Valliappa Foundation through the People’s Power Collective (PPC) conducted a 21-day intensive and immersive training program on Community Radio in August 2022. 

The training curriculum comprised all aspects of running a Community Radio station including community engagement through field activities, recording sessions, reporting local activities, creating content, presenting, editing, and broadcasting.

Based on the surveys conducted and social and digital media announcements, nearly 400 candidates signed up indicating their interest in being trained. After round one of the telephone interviews, 45 candidates were shortlisted. These candidates were then interviewed by the PPC and the Valliappa Foundation Team who selected a group of 16 people for training. Fourteen successfully completed the training and were awarded a Certificate in Community Radio at the end of August 2022. 

Criteria for selection were two-fold: their understanding and stated interest in community radio and their domicile in Salem District.
